As the historian for Leicester Speedway and a former local radio correspondent, in 2003 I fulfilled a personal ambition by publishing my research work to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the introduction of speedway in Leicester. My first book 'The Pre-War Years' tells the story of the two tracks that existed side by side in the city which highlighted the importance and significance of both venues and their place in the history of speedway. During 2004 I completed part two 'The Hunters Era' which covers the early post-war period up until the closure of the Blackbird Road track in 1963. And to bring the story up to date the final part of this trilogy recalls the days of the Lions until the final season of racing at Leicester in 1983. |
