SPEEDWAY IN LEICESTER

THE LIONS ROAR

After a break of five years the roar of speedway bikes was once again heard at Blackbird Road when two former Leicester riders, Ron Wilson and Reg Fearman, re-introduced the sport in the city. The return ushered in one of the brightest spells in the club's history and under their guidance, the Lions developed a brand of thrilling entertainment that proved a big hit with the fans. Resplendent in their colour co-ordinated racing leathers the riders looked a team in every sense of the word and with results to match they became the best club in the Midlands.

The story continues through a roller coaster ride of great uncertainty when the team's star rating quickly faded and concludes with a resurgence in fortunes before the stadium was sold and pulled down.

The famous and not so famous names of Leicester speedway are faithfully recalled through the pages of this book which sets out to bring back the memory of their contribution to the time when the Lions were a top sporting attraction in the city and the Blackbird Road track was considered one of the finest circuits in the country.
